Looking for a low-commitment volunteer project that still has high-impact results on the Baltimore community?
Join CRASH! CRASH welcomes all Hopkins-affiliated members and interested students in the Baltimore area to participate. While CRASH is known for providing its members with a fun volunteering experience once a week, we are also looking for members that want to take on a leadership position with a larger time commitment.
Creating Responsibility for Adolescent Sexual Health (CRASH) is dedicated to educating adolescents on various aspects of sexual education and health. Knowing the importance of establishing a close connection with our students, the first session is dedicated solely to introducing the topics we will be exploring, and learning about each individual. After this, there are 5 sessions we teach in total: Sexual Health and Hygiene, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Pregnancy and Contraception, Relationships and Sexuality, and a cumulative Jeopardy game. Each semester, we do one or two 6-week sessions, with one session per week. The sessions are conducted in various locations, including the William Schaefer House for Boys (under the Maryland State Juvenile Justice System), and the Maryland CHOICE program. During the program, many of our volunteers forge a lasting bond with the small group that they work with. The group consists of students from the undergraduate, medical, nursing, and public health schools.
